Free Spirit
by Josh Kermiet, Jeff Kriksciun, and Rafael Spielman
Free Spirit is a record of a collaboration between three friends. Across a wide geographic divide (from Portland to Stokholm), Raf Spielman, Josh Kermiet, and Jeff Kriksciun discussed the loose commonalities that linked their various lives and artistic endeavors. One such element they discovered is the idea of timelessness, as it relates to both the formal elements of their work and the nature of their relationships. They then separated, using their various practices to create work that reflected these thematic coincidences. The result is a collection of zines that share a common spine as well as the common considerations shared by close friends, but whose various formats and color coding reflect each artist's unique approach to expressing these ideas through drawing. The book is an object that attempts to bridge the gap, both physical and personal, that exists between the artists.
